If you can accept customer service without a phone call, then its time to ditch your Vonage, VOIP or land line for MagicJack.
I was skeptical, as I am with most “As Seen on TV” products. But I read the reviews and all the info at the site. It seemed like a no risk proposition – free for 30 days. And if I like it, for less than $50 and no annual fees, I have a home phone!
I signed up. The product is quite simple – it plugs into your USB port, software install automatically, takes you through some prompts to setup your account, then simply plug in your phone line. Poof! Instant phone. Plus, if you ever travel, bring the small device with you, plug into your internet-enabled PC, then a phone, and you have free calls, from your “home number”.
I initially had some issues in accessing my voice mail, so I did contact MagicJack support, which is only available via chat. All in all, the support people were pretty helpful. However, what resolved my quality issues was me removing some of the junk installs and background processes on my PC. Once I did this, the service has been excellent!
I have been using MagicJack for about a month now. No problems, whatsoever. And come to find out, by chance, that a good friend of mine also bought MagicJack – he started skeptical and was won over.
I suspect MagicJack will charge an annual fee at some point, but for $50, you can’t beat it for the first year.
