If your dog or can’t won’t stay off your furniture of out of a room, you need StayAway. It’s a simple and humane way to condition your pet do what you want – even when you are not around!

After sleeping with our two dogs for nearly 10 years, I used the StayAway system to train them to stay off and out of the bed. And it took less than a week.

The StayAway system uses a motion sensing eye to detect movement. Once it detects movement within range it does two things: a short blast of compressed air AND a loud beeping sound. This startles the unsuspecting pet and they immediately back track. Now conditioning a behavior can take a few attempts and is best used in numerous, random circumstances: when you’re home, when you’re not, sometimes its there, sometimes its not. It also takes consistency: don’t invite or allow your pet to do something you are training them not to do – if you want them off the bed, don’t give in to sad eyes. This only gives mixed messages and confuses your training.

After the pet becomes aware of the deterrent, you can switch the unit to “beep” only…by this time the pet has associated the blast of air with the beep and is expecting for every beep there will be an air blast. Why do this? To save money! Once the air can is empty, you need to buy replacement cans. The beeping simply needs batteries.

Considering using this to keep pets out of rooms too: place it near the door, so when they walk in, the unit is set off.

Hand Vac Really Sucks Pet Hair

Hand vac picks up pet hair

The Shark Cordless Hand Vac (aka Pet Perfect Hand Vac) picks up an amazing amount of pet hair and dirt, even when you think none is there!

A combination of a powerful motor and brush head really pulls up an amazing about of pet hair and dirt on most any type of carpet. I’ve used in my cars and on rugs at home.

The brush can be removed for a standard “hand vac” head, or insert a narrow nozzle attachment for hard to reach places.

The biggest and perhaps only drawback to this vac is the battery. The battery tends to get weak very quickly, so the length of time to get maximum power can be limited.

All in all, this vac is worth its weight at getting up dirt.
